The Chanel Classic Flap Bag is indisputably one of the most iconic accessories in the history of fashion. The bag has also been on a huge journey, with significant design details changing over the years; from the way it’s held to the signature double CC lock.
In 1929 Coco Chanel designed her first bag, but little did she know it would be the pinnacle of all designer bags. A little different to how we see it styled today, it was primarily hand-carried just like any other bag, yet it was the first bag for women to come with a shoulder strap – a detail that allowed freedom from the impractical constraints of the clutch. In February 1955 (thus the 2.55 signature name), she debuted the shoulder-carried version and changed handbag history. For the first time, it was acceptable for women of considerable social status to carry a bag on their shoulders.
But even harder to imagine is that the signature double CC lock didn’t make its entrance until the 80s, when Karl Lagerfeld added the iconic detail to the bag – revolving the classic flap to how we recognise it today. Another major change in design was the all-chain strap and burgundy leather interior lining, both significant to the history of Coco Chanel, which now remains in our hearts as a classic vintage style.
At Catwalk Club you can hire from our collection of Double Flap bags at a fraction of the price. Currently the collection includes the two neutral must-haves; beige and black, which are both highly versatile across all 4 seasons. New to the collection is the burgundy flap, making the perfect autumn/winter accessory which has the power to chic up your day-to-night attire. Next, the gorgeous iridescent blue flap bag, which has proven to be a highly versatile transitioning piece. Style it with a floral day dress in the S/S seasons or a sophisticated power-suit for an important work event this A/W.
2. Chanel Coco Handle Flap
Following our AW19 Trend blog post, handheld structures were one of our favourite trends to flourish the runway. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that we have become more in-love with the Coco Handle Flap bag, not that we needed any more reasons!
The vintage-inspired top-handle structure adds instant polish to any attire, elevating even the simplest outfits. There is something completely enticing about their structured silhouette, as I am sure the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex would agree – wearing the lady-like bags with most of their outfits.
Our collection currently includes the small pink and gold bags, making the perfect statement evening accessory. As well as the classic medium beige that is heavily adored by all, thanks to its versatility and neutral aesthetic.
If you like to add a touch of femininity and elegance to your daily looks, then opt for the Chanel Coco Handle Flap and alternatively attach the cross body strap for a casual but still highly chic finish.
